Text Cleaner and Accent Remover

A character that takes up no visible space but is still in the text. Zero-width spaces, byte order marks, soft hyphens and text direction marks are the common ones. They usually arrive by pasting from Word, a PDF, a chat app or a website.

They break things quietly. A zero-width space inside a URL or a code identifier makes it fail with no visible cause, a non-breaking space stops a line wrapping where it should, and a search for a word will miss it if something invisible sits in the middle.

Because it is doing the job of a space. Deleting it would join the words on either side into one. The same applies to the other unusual spaces, so only the truly invisible characters are removed outright.

Any language written in the Latin alphabet. Letters that carry a mark are folded to their base form, and letters that have no mark to remove are mapped by hand, so the German sharp s becomes ss, the Nordic slashed o becomes o and the Polish stroked l becomes l.
